Week in Review: January 21 - 26

Movies - Best movie of the week was indie comedy Sleepwalk with Me, which I loved.  New movie of the week was Gangster Squad and rounding things out was Goon.  Both were good, but neither was amazing.

Books - Book of the week was Crown and Country by David Starkey.  I really enjoyed this, despite a few problems with it overall.

TV - TV show of the week was the second season of Project Runway: All Stars.  I like the overall concept of All Stars in general, but I'm not sure if I'm too much of a fan of the way Project Runway does it - they've changed too much in changing the hosts and judges.

Recommendations - The big movie that I'm looking forward to seeing out this week is Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.  Everything else is just kind of "oh, hey, there's that."

Next Week - New movie next week will be Broken City.  We'll see about the rest of the week; I've got the computer problems worked out, so I'll be around.

Requests - Anything I should do? Let me know.

Week in Review: January 14 - 19

Awards - With the mentality of better late than never, I did up a thing on the nominations for this year's Golden Raspberry Awards, my favourite awards of the season.  Also up were the results of the 70th Golden Globes, and a bit of a commentary on the presentation itself.

Birthdays -  Two birthday's this week, Betty White's 91st, and A.A. Milne's 131st.

Movies - While I said last week that I would be doing Gangster Squad this week I clearly lied.  Instead new movie of the week was Jack Reacher, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  Other movies of the week were the 1984 Red Dawn and The Bang Bang Club, neither of which was all that good.

Books - Book of the week was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is probably my favourite instalment in the series.

TV - TV show of the week was the first season of the original series of Star Trek.  I've had some computer problems, so the review was initially posted uncompleted; that's been corrected now.

Recommendations - The movie out this week that I'm most looking forward to is Broken City. While I made other recommendations, nothing else overly caught my attention and I doubt I'll see them in theatres.

Next Week - I'm not too sure about next week, owing to the computer problems.  I'm definitely going to do Gangster Squad, and I'll do the weekly recommendations, but the rest of the week is up in the air.

Requests -What about you? Anything I should read or see? Let me know!

Week in Review: January 7 - 12

Awards - This was an award filled week.  First up was the People's Choice Awards, followed by the Critic's Choice Awards.  Most importantly, though, were this years Academy Award nominations.

Birthdays -  Birthdays this week included David Bowie - who announced the release of new music - the Duchess of Cambridge, and Diana Gabaldon.

Movies - Three movies this week; Judd Apatow's Knocked Up and it's sort-of-sequel This is 40 and the teen party film Project X.  The best is, by far, This is 40, and the worst is, also by far, Project X.

Books - Continuing with the Terry Pratchett novels, this week we did the City Watch Discworld novel Men at Arms which was awesome.

TV - No TV this week, sorry. Life got a bit in the way.

Recommendations - Two limited releases this week, Quartet and Struck by Lightning, both of which look great, and the wider release Gangster Squad.  I want to see all of these.

Next Week - Tomorrow we'll continue the Harry Potter-a-thon with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and a review of this year's Golden Globes. Movie of the week will be Gangster Squad which I've been anxious to see for months now.  Not sure about the rest of the week, but there'll be something.

Requests - Anything I should watch? Let me know!

Week in Review: December 31 - January 5

Birthdays - The first birthday of the year that we've celebrated was the 121st birthday (or what would have been, were he still alive) of author J.R.R. Tolkien, best known for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.  The second birthday that we did was the considerably younger (and still living) Diane Keaton, who turned 67 yesterday.

Notes - To ring in the new year we did two notes this week; one a review of the movies of 2012 and the other listing off what I'm looking forward to seeing in 2013.  Both were a bit lazy, but what do you expect for New Years Day?

Movies - New movie of the week was The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first instalment in a trilogy based on Tolkien's The Hobbit, and Les Misérables, based on the musical adaptation of the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo.  The only other movie was Friends with Kids, which I also enjoyed.

Books - Two books this week, one the historical fiction based on the childhood of Queen Victoria, The Captive of Kensington Palace by Jean Plaidy, the other the erotic paranormal romance Dark Lover by J.R. Ward.

TV - TV show of the week was the first two seasons of the BBC drama Sherlock, a modern adaptation of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novels.  I love it and want it to be 2014 just so we can see the third season.

Recommendations - No new movie recommendations this week, because there wasn't anything good, but Looper is out on DVD so go see that if you haven't already.

Next Week - Next week we'll have the Terry Pratchett Discworld novel Men At Arms, and the Judd Apatow movies Knocked Up and its sort of sequel This is 40.  There will also be a note on the 85th Academy Awards nominations.

Requests -Any requests? Let me know!

Week in Review: December 24 - 29

Birthdays - Two birthdays this week, Game of Thrones' Kit Harington, better known as Lord Jon Snow, and Dame Maggie Smith, known most recently for her work in Downton Abbey, as the Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, and the Harry Potter films, as Professor Minerva McGonagall.

Movies - No new movies this week, so instead we did Christmas romance in Love Actually, the story of Jesus' birth in The Nativity Story, and rather raunchy comedy in Bachelorette.

Books - Book of the week was Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon, the fourth in the Outlander series and the first set-in-America book of hers.  While not as strong as the first ones in the series, it's definitely better than Voyager.

TV - Earlier in the week we did this year's Christmas Special of Downton Abbey, which I enjoyed despite its heavy handedness, and yesterday we did the fourth season of Project Runway Australia, which I did not enjoy, and the second season of Homeland, which I had mixed feelings about.

Recommendations - The only movie recommendation this week that I didn't also make last week was for Promised Land, which is getting a limited release.  Not that I'm complaining though, as it gives me a chance to get caught up on some of the movies released in the last few weeks.

Next Week - Next week is going to be a surprise of a week.  Les Misérables will be up, as will The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, making up for the lack of a new movie this week.  Book of the week will be Dark Lover, the first instalment in J.R. Ward's paranormal romance series The Black Dagger Brotherhood, which I've gotten really addicted to.  I'm not too sure what else we'll be doing, movie, TV, or bookwise, so you'll have to wait and see.

Requests - Anything I should check out? Let me know!

Week in Review: December 17 - 22

Birthdays -  Birthdays this week were Steven Spielberg and Eugene Levy, who both turned 66.

Movies - New movie of the week was The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, which is my new favourite instalment of the Twilight Saga.  Older movies were Man on a Ledge and The Ledge, neither of which was very good, and two shorts, Paperman and Partysaurus Rex, which were both good.  My favourite of the week was probably Paperman.

Books - Book of the week was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is probably my least favourite of the Harry Potter series.

TV - Three TV shows this week; the third seasons of Grey's Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, and Sons of Anarchy.  While I liked them all, I had some mixed feelings about elements of the plots.

Recommendations - This week we actually did two sets of recommendations, one for Friday and one for Christmas Day.  The Friday movies that I'm looking forward to seeing the most are This is 40, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Impossible, while the Christmas movies that I'm looking forward to seeing are Les Misérables, and Django Unchained.

Next Week - Okay, so book-wise we're going to do Diana Gabaldon's Drums of Autumn, and TV-wise we've got the second season of Homeland and the fourth season of Project Runway Australia.  Movie-wise, I'm not entirely sure yet - for sure we'll be doing Love Actually, The Nativity Story, and Bachelorette.  There may or may not be a new movie, we'll see.

Requests - Anything I should watch or read? Let me know!

Week in Review: December 10 - 15

Note: On Friday there was a mass shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut, to which I send out condolences for.

Awards:  Also on Friday, I made note of this year's Golden Globe nominations, with a few predictions (despite saying that I wasn't going to make predictions).

Birthdays: Getting back into the swing of this, we celebrated the 23rd and 24th birthdays of Taylor Swift and Vanessa Hudgens, respectively.

Movies - Movies this week included the indie 3,2,1... Frankie Go Boom, which was delightfully hilarious, the future-award winner Lincoln, and the second-to-last Twilight film, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1.  All of them had their good parts, even Breaking Dawn.

Books - Book of the week was James Sallis' Drive, which provided the basis of the movie of the same name.  While I enjoyed the book, I think the movie was better which is a rarity in itself.

TV - This week's TV shows included the miniseries Titanic: Blood and Steel and the first half of the first season of the ABC Family channel summer show Bunheads. I really enjoyed the latter, but was rather aggravated by the former.

Recommendations - The big new movie this week is, of course, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first in what appears to be a trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkein's (relatively short) novel The Hobbit.  No other movies are important, although I am interested in seeing Save the Date - mostly because I enjoy both Lizzy Caplan and Alison Brie.

Next Week - Up next week is the conclusion to the Twilight saga, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.  I'm not too sure about the other movies for the week, but book of the week will be Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, while TV show of the week will be the third seasons of Grey's Anatomy, Sons of Anarchy, and The Big Bang Theory.

Requests - Any requests? Let me know.

Week in Review: December 3 - 8

Birthdays: I've fallen out of the habit of doing birthdays, but I'm going to try to get back into it.  This week we noted the birthday of one of TV's favourite vampires, Ian Somerhalder, who turned 34 yesterday.

Movies - New movies of the week were Silver Linings Playbook and the semi-Christmas movie Rise of the Guardians. I loved the world that Rise of the Guardians created and look forward to any sequels that they make, assuming they make any.  As for Silver Linings, I expect this one to win some awards, or at least be nominated, it was really good.  Other movies of the week were Thor and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  One was really good the other was not so much, I'll let you figure out which was which.

Books - This week we did two comics, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight and the IDW Publishing mini series Spike. I really liked the first arch of Season Eight, and while I wasn't as much of a fan of the second arch I did like where the season ended and the set up it's provided for Season Nine.

TV - Double dose this week, with the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy, which just ended, and the second season of the same show.  I'm really hooked on this show and can't wait for the next season.

Recommendations - New movies out this week are Hyde Park on Hudson and Playing for Keeps neither of which I expect to be all that good.  See them, don't see them, your call.

Next Week - Up next week is 3, 2, 1... Frankie Go Boom, Lincoln, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1.  Book of the week will be Drive, the book upon which the movie of the same name, starring Ryan Gosling, was based on.

Requests -Anything I should read or watch? Let me know!

Week in Review: November 26 - December 1

Movies - No new movie this week, so instead I treated you to two bad movies.  First up was the cult classic Zardoz starring Sean Connery as the Exterminator Zed.  Second up was The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which is the worst in the Twilight series.

Books - This week we did the third, and my least favourite, of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander novels, Voyager. This one really serves as a bridge connecting the Rising books to the Revolution books and is weakened by that, in my opinion.  It's still good though, such is Gabaldon's skill as a writer.

TV - In celebration of the life of actor Larry Hagman, who died last week at the age of 81, we did the first seasons of both the original run and the revival of Dallas.  I am ridiculously hooked on both these shows and can't wait to watch their second seasons.

Recommendations - There were no new movies this week.  I really don't have any interest in anything new that's out.  Instead there's a bunch of movies new to DVD that I recommended, the best of which being Men in Black 3.

Next Week - No guarantees for next week, but I'm going to try to do two new movies - both Rise of the Guardians, which I meant to do this week, and Silver Linings Playbook.  We're also going to continue the Twilight-a-thon with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  To give us a bit of a vampire theme for the week, I'm also going to do Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 as the book of the week.  And rounding out things will be the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy, which ends on Tuesday.  I think I'll also do the second season of Sons, just because I know I'm behind on that.

Requests - Any requests? Let me know!

Week in Review: November 19 - 24

Notes - No birthdays this week, however we did mark the death of actor Larry Hagman, best known for his roles in both editions of Dallas and I Dream of Jeannie.

Movies - New movie of the week was Wreck-It Ralph, which I loved, while old movies were Twilight and Under the Tuscan Sun, both of which... okay, so I think Tuscan is a great chick flick even though it isn't all that great, and I have very mixed feelings about the Twilight series in general.

Books - Continuing the Harry Potter franchise, this week's book was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  The fourth in the series it's also one of the longest, and one of the best despite some major logical choices made by the characters.

TV - TV show of the week was the third season of Face Off, a review I meant to post a few weeks ago but didn't due to technical difficulties and the season finales of other shows.  I really liked this season and am looking forward to season four.

Recommendations - This week's recommendations include the remake of Red Dawn, new Christmas movie Rise of the Guardians, book-to-movie Life of Pi, and biography Hitchcock.  I want to see all of these.

Next Week - Up next week is the 1974 cult flick Zardoz, which I really think no one should ever watch.  Continuing that theme we also have The Twilight Saga: New Moon, as we're embarking on a bit of a Twilight marathon leading up to my review of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.  Are you looking forward to it? I'm not sure if I am.  New movie of the week will be Rise of the Guardians.

Requests -Any requests? Let me know!

Week in Review: November 12 - 17

Birthdays:  Only one birthday this week, Princes Charles, who is 64 this year.

Movies - We had a Daniel Craig theme this week, with a back-to-back of his James Bond movies, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall.  I loved them all, but my favourite of the bunch was Casino and my least favourite Quantum.  To celebrate the conclusion of our Bond marathon I also did up a note discussing all the movies.  I'm sure I'll do the non-Eon films, Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again, but I'm going to take a bit of a Bond break for now.

Books - This week we did the third Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. My biggest critique of this one was about the title, so yeah.  Actually, if I think about it, I have a lot of critiques about Hermione in this one, but that's a whole other story.

TV - TV show of the week was the third season of the absolutely awesome Downton Abbey.  I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more.  I'm already anxiously waiting for the Christmas special and season 4.

Recommendations - Because we missed a bit, I tried to just quickly cover a bunch of movies that have been released, either to threatre or DVD lately.  The ones that I'm most looking forward to are Wreck-It Ralph, Lincoln, and Anna Karenina, but the previously mentioned Skyfall was also recommended.

Next Week - Up next week is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Wreck-it-Ralph, and the third season of Face Off.  I'm not sure about any other movies, we'll see.

Requests -Any requests? Let me know!

Weeks in Review: October 29 - November 10

Hi everyone! We're back!  To anyone out there reading, I'm really sorry about the unexpected disappearance. My computer is back now, although I have been having some lingering connectivity issues and life is about to get really hectic between the end of the semester and the prelude to the holidays both creeping up.  So I am back and I am here to stay, but I might not be as regular in the next few weeks.  I do plan on trying to keep up with my usual features, but there might not be daily posts for the next bit, and things might be a bit late.

There's not much to recap for the two weeks in review here.  Movie-wise, there was The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Nightmare Before Christmas, both of which I consider to be Halloween (and really any random time of the year) staples.  I meant to also do reviews of old favourites Sweeny Todd and Repo! The Genetic Opera as well as new releases Frankenweenie and Fun Size.  These reviews will all eventually make it up here, but I'm not going to rush them - I will, however, note that I love Sweeny and Repo, I thought Frankenweenie was cute and nicely paid tribute to both classic Tim Burton movies and the Frankenstein genre, while Fun Size was just bad.  Book-wise we covered the graphic novel continuation of Joss Whedon's Angel, which I did in two parts, Angel: After the Fall (Maxi-Series) and Angel: After the Fall (Continuing Series).  While I've really enjoyed other elements of Joss Whedon's universe, I was a bit disappointed with both of these works, particularly because of the lack of continuity within them.  I have been reading the latest installments in the Buffyverse comics, and I have to say that so far at least Angel and Faith is far superior to After the Fall.

Next Week - Next week is going to be Bond-tastic! We finally finish off the Bond marathon with the last Eon films, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall.  To round it all out, I'll be doing a note on the series as a whole, discussing my favourite of each of the main reoccurring characters: Bond, M, Q, and Moneypenny.  It's about a week later than I intended it to be, but such is life.

Requests - Anything you would like to see me do?  Let me know in the comments!

Week in Review: October 22 - 27

Birthdays - This week we did a few birthdays; Christopher Lloyd turned 74, Kevin Kline 64, Cary Elwes 50, and John Cleese 73.  On a related note, the post for John Cleese was also my 200th post since starting this.

Movies - This week we finished off the Pierce Brosnan Bonds, with Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. Of the lot, the best was probably Tomorrow Never Dies, although none were as good as the new film, Seven Psychopaths.

Books - Book of the week was the superbly written The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling.  Her first foray into adult literature I enjoyed it, at least once I got over the shock of it.

TV - This week we did one of the recent miniseries on the Titanic, of the same name.  I enjoyed it, but I feel that it could have been done better.

Recommendations - Out this week is Cloud Atlas and Fun Size, both of which I'm looking forward to seeing.  In DVD we had a myriad of things that I've seen and reviewed over the months, so now it's your chance to check them out.

Next Week - Next week we are taking a break from the Bond!  We are also doing a bit of a movie overload, with a total of six films.  There's a bit of a Halloween theme, a bit of a Tim Burton theme, and a definite musical theme: we'll be doing my favourite Halloween related or somehow dark and messed up musicals, Nightmare Before Christmas, Sweeney Todd, Repo! The Genetic Opera, and Rocky Horror Picture Show.  New movies will be Frankenweenie and Fun Size.

Requests- Anything I should check out? Let me know!

Week in Review: October 15 - 20

Movies - We had an action (or thriller) packed week, with Bonds Licence to Kill and GoldenEye sandwiching sort-of based on a true story Argo.  I really enjoyed Argo, even it if offended me as both a historian and a Canadian.  Not exactly the truth, but still entertaining.  For the Bonds... well, both were good movies, and I'm definitely liking Pierce Brosnan so far, plus GoldenEye had Sean Bean.  You cannot go wrong with Sean Bean.

Books - Book-of-the-Week was Diana Gabaldon's Dragonfly in Amber.  While I enjoyed the book, it wasn't as good as its predecessor, Outlander.

TV - This week we did the 10th season of Project Runway.  While I was disappointed by the winner it was purely because I didn't like that person personally, and I have to admit that the best collection won.

Recommendations - Out this week is Alex Cross, the latest film based on the books by James Patterson, and The Sessions.  I've always enjoyed the Alex Cross books, but never been a big fan of the movies so I think I'll skip that one, but I am intrigued by The Sessions.

Next Week - Up next week is a massive dose of Bond.  We'll be finishing off Brosnan with three movies, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day.  We're almost ready for Skyfall!  To round out the week'll be Seven Psychopaths.  Oh! And we'll also have my review of J.K. Rowling's foray into adult literature, The Casual Vacancy.

Requests -Anything I should check out? Let me know.

Week in Review: October 8 - 13

Birthdays: I kind of forgot to do birthdays this week, so I made up for it in the last couple days (I think).  This week we celebrated the births of Josh Hutcherson, Kate Walsh, and Sir Roger Moore, all who've had roles that I've reviewed in the last few months.

Movies - New movies of the week were Pitch Perfect and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  I loved them both, for completely different reasons, but I think I would say that I liked Perks a bit more.  Bonds were A View to Kill and The Living Daylights, the latter which showed me that Timothy Dalton is a preferable Bond to Roger Moore.

Books - Book of the week was Bernard Cornwell's latest instalment in The Saxon Stories, Death of Kings. For the most part I did enjoy this book, although I don't think it's entirely up to par with previous installments of the series.

TV - Another disappointment was this week's TV show, the second season of Franklin and Bash.  I could have been much more impressed by our favourite goofball lawyers and their colleagues.

Recommendations - A slew of recommendations this week, including Argo, Here Comes the Boom, Seven Psychopaths, and 1, 2, 3... Frankie Goes Boom.  Of the group, Frankie Goes Boom is a limited release, but you should be able to see the rest in theatres.

Next Week -Up next week we finish off Timothy Dalton and the eighties with Licence to Kill before entering the nineties and welcoming a new Bond, Pierce Brosnan, with GoldenEye.  I'm beginning to really see the end in sight with this series.  New movie of the week will be Argo.

Requests -What about you? Anything I should check out?  Let me know.

Sunday, 7 October 2012

Week in Review: October 1 - 6

Birthdays: This week we marked the birthdays of two Brits, Dame Julie Andrews and Kate Winslet, and two Canadians, twins Shawn and Aaron Ashmore.

Movies - New movie of the week was Looper, which I absolutely loved.  We rounded out things with Finding Nemo, and two more Bonds, For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy.

Books - Double duty with books today, first up was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which we followed with The Fault in Our Stars.  Both amazed me, so if you haven't read them you should.

TV - This week's TV show was the summer portion of Suits' second season.  I actually really enjoyed it, although not as much as the first one.

Recommendations - New movies this week are Frankenweenie, Butter, and The Oranges.  As Butter and Oranges are both only getting limited releases I doubt I'll see them in theatres, but I'm really looking forward to Frankenweenie.

Next Week - Next week we're finishing off a Bond, Roger Moore, and moving on to the next, Timothy Dalton.  First up is A View to Kill then The Living Daylights.  New movies are The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Pitch Perfect, both of which I waited far too long to see.

Requests -What about you guys?  Anything you think I should watch or read? Let me know!

Sunday, 30 September 2012

Week in Review: September 24 - 29

Note - This week was marked by the death of actor Johnny Lewis and his landlord.  I kind of expect this story to stay in the news for a bit, just because of the circumstances.

Birthdays -Just one birthday this week: Gwyneth Paltrow's 40th.  I meant to do more, but didn't get the chance.

Movies - New movie of the week was Trouble with the Curve, which didn't really live up to my expectations.  Likewise with Hysteria, which we also did.  Rounding out the week was the Bond film Moonraker - I know I said last week it was going to be For Your Eyes Only, but I lied.  My favourite film was Trouble with the Curve.

Books - There was no book of the week owing to my spending Monday pretty much entirely without internet.  I'll make it up to you and do double duty next week.

TV - In tribute to Johnny Lewis, TV show of the week was the first season of Sons of Anarchy, which I loved.

Recommendations - Looper, Won't Back Down, and Pitch Perfect are all out this week and I'm looking forward to seeing each and every one of them.  So should you.

Next Week - Next week's new movie will be Looper and the new/returning movie will be my favourite Pixar film, Finding Nemo which is currently out in theatres again.  Bond movies will be For Your Eyes Only (for real this time) and Octopussy.  I'm already expecting to roll my eyes at the latter.  Also, two books tomorrow! The Fault in Our Stars and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  I loved them both.

Requests -Anything you want me to watch or read?  Let me know in the comments.

Sunday, 23 September 2012

Week in Review: September 17 - 22

Birthdays - This week we marked the births of author George R.R. Martin and actor Tom Felton.

Movies - This week we did The Expendables, The Expendables 2, and The Spy Who Loved Me.  I'm still not sure which one was my favourite... although, really not for a good reason.

Books - Book of the week was Diana Gabaldon's epic, multi-genre novel Outlander, from the series of the same name.  I love these books but Outlander is probably my favourite.  I'll be reviewing the rest of the series in weeks to come.

TV - This week we did a double whammy for TV reviews, with both the ninth season of So You Think You Can Dance and the 2011 Christmas special of Downton Abbey.  I was a bit disappointed with SYTCD, although I agreed with the results, and I couldn't help but shake the feeling that it was being set up to be cancelled.  That being said, I definitely loved Downton.

Recommendations - Out this week are two new police action flicks, Dredd 3D and End of Watch, and two new award-buzz movies, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Trouble with the Curve.  I'm looking forward to watching all four.  New to DVD is The Cabin in the Woods and Hysteria, which I've been waiting months to watch.

Next Week -Up next week is Trouble with the Curve and Hysteria.  Bond movies of the week will be For Your Eyes Only.

Requests -What about you guys?  Any books, movies, or TV shows I should check out? Let me know!

Sunday, 16 September 2012

Week in Review: September 10 - 15

Movies - This week we did a tribute to Michael Clarke Duncan with The Green Mile, a Bradley Cooper marathon with Hit and Run and The Words, and continued the Bond-a-thon with Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun.  My favourite was The Green Mile, by a large margin.

Books - Book of the week was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which I absolutely love.  I said it in the review and I'll say it here: my review might not exactly be unbiased.

TV - TV show of the week was the political miniseries Political Animals.  I really enjoyed this and am kind of disappointed that it was just the one short season.

Recommendations - A bunch of limited releases this week, the biggest being the early release of The Master, which is expected to get a fuller release next week.  Beyond that, however, is the 3D re-release of Finding Nemo, which should be awesome.

Next Week - Up next week we'll have an Expendables marathon with first the original film then the sequel.  Wrapping up the week will The Spy Who Loved Me and a review of the ninth season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Requests - Anything I should watch or read?  Let me know in the comments!

Sunday, 9 September 2012

Week in Review: September 3 - 8

Note - This week was marred by the death of actor Michael Clarke Duncan.  There was no tribute for him this week - although last week we did Armageddon, in which he had a memorable role, and next week we'll do The Green Mile, for which he received an Oscar nomination.

Movies - This week we had two Bonds, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Diamonds are Forever, finishing off both Sean Connery and George Lazenby.  We also had two new movies, Premium Rush and Lawless.  My favourite of the week was Premium Rush, while my least favourite was On Her Majesty's Secret Service - although I have decided that On Her Majesty would make an interesting Bond film.

Books - Book of the week was the hilarious and hopefully not entirely true memoir, Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson. While I thought the mid-point of the book was a bit weak it both started and ended well, and I really enjoyed it.  Definitely had points where it made me feel a bit better about my family.

TV - We've continued the review of Grey's Anatomy with its second season, which I thought was superior to its first.  Stay tuned for the third season, which'll happen in weeks to come.

Recommendations - New this week is The Words, which I'm surprisingly really looking forward to seeing.  Also out is Bachelorette, which I'm sure will be at least mildly entertaining.

Next Week - Next week's Bonds will be The Man with the Golden Gun and Live and Let Die, the first of the Roger Moore's.  We'll also be doing The Words and Hit and Run, for a bit of a Bradly Cooper-a-thon., and The Green Mile for a Michael Clarke Duncan tribute.  Book-wise, we'll be starting the great Harry Potter review, with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Sorcer's Stone for you Americans).

Requests -Anything you'd like me to read or watch? Let me know in the comments!
